“And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and favour in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown upon her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti.” (Esther 2:17)
Esther was a Jewish woman who was chosen to be Queen by a Persian King. God, used Queen Esther’s position in the royal household to save the Jewish people. Mordecai revealed a plot that Haman was set to kill all the Jews in the kingdom. He then persuaded Esther to go before the King and appeal for the lives of the Jews, knowing that to do so without being invited would mean certain death.
The King Xerxes, guard Haman was proud and anger and wanted nothing more than to see Mordecai die. Yet, Esther was brave and with God’s help she had read out to the King a story of how Mordecai had saved the King’s life. It was at this point that King Xerxes realizes that Mordecai had not been thanked for this and requested of him what he would take as a reward. In the end Mordecai asks for the life of Haman, who is hanged, therefore stalling the death of the Jews.
To me, Queen Esther’s story is one of great faith and courage. Although, she knew she could lose her life by appearing before King Xerxes, she did it anyway and by doing so, she saved herself, the life of her cousin, Mordecai and the life of all the Jews in the kingdom.
