“The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.
And if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.” (Romans 8:16-17)
Recently, I had the opportunity to teach a youth class in my new ward. Although, we had seen each other from a distance, now we were in the same small room – and it is a little scary, i can tell you!
After some introductions, the overriding impression i got from my little group, was how noisy they were. As it is the 12-14 years-old it is not unusual for them to be chatted, but usually after some coercion i normally get them to be quiet, but no matter how hard i tried, in the end i had to give them the silent treatment, which is something that is used in Primary, with the younger children – they were quiet and focused, for a few minutes at least.
Yet, this was not the most sad thing i learnt about these young people, who one day will be church leaders, and that is, only one of them had scriptures with them, only one of them was reading them daily, unfortunately the rest weren’t. It saddened me, that these young people who have brought up in the gospel, had not yet learnt that reading the scriptures on a daily basis is the only way to learn of God and what He wants them to do.

After studying the above scripture this last week, i came to understand through the Spirit that God wants the best, no, better than the best for his children and will do all that he to help them achieve their best. It is our birthright to have a witness of the Spirit that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, our Saviour and Redeemer. It is through the Holy Spirit that we come to know this truth and by knowing it, we bear witness unto the world of this truth. It is through knowing all things through the Spirit, that we become joint-heirs with Jesus Christ and that the Father has, becomes ours, even unto eternal life and exaltation.
We are all children of an Heavenly Father who loves us and have been chosen from the beginning, to be his chosen and elect. It is through the witness of the Spirit that our election is made sure, through Christ’s Atonement, although, it does not mean that we can give up trying, or working and let go of faith. Yet, it does mean that if we keep the commandments of God and endure to the end, then one day we will be like God, knowing all things and understanding all things. And to one day, live with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ for all eternity, time without end, through his justice and his mercy given to us through our repentance and the Atonement. It is through this Spirit, that we can become ‘one’ with deity and with all living mankind.
“O remember, my son, and learn wisdom in thy youth; yea, learn in thy youth to keep the commandments of God.”
