preston-temple“This is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man” (Moses 1:39).

Before the world was mortal, Heavenly Father created a plan so we, his children can become like him. The plan includes, the Creation, the Fall and the Atonement of Jesus Christ. This plan makes it possible for us to perfected through the Atonement, receive a fullness of joy and live forever in God’s presence.

Jesus Christ, under the direction of Heavenly Father created the earth and all things that pertain to the earth. All things were first created spiritually and it is only after the Fall when Adam and Eve were made mortal, that everything else that was made became mortal too. Mortal, meaning that they could feel pain and suffering and even death. (2 Nephi 2:22-25)

Once mortal mankind was subject to all the human frailties, including death. God warned Adam and Eve that if they partook of the fruit of the tree of knowledge, they would surely die. Whilst in the garden of Eden, neither Adam nor Eve could die, therefore the fall was part of God’s plan.

When we are conceived in the womb we take upon us a human form. A human form that has both spirit and physical body, our spirit being like unto our body. We are born onto this earth that we may gain a body, gain knowledge, understanding, experience and wisdom and to walk by faith and find God. There is not one person born who does not suffer trials and tribulations as they walk this life’s journey, these trials and tribulations help us to continually reach, search and look forward with hope. (Alma 34:32-34)

Yet, for all those who are mortal there comes a time, some far sooner than others, that we die. When we die our spirits return unto the Father that made us, to live in the Spirit World awaiting our resurrection. For many of those who died before Jesus Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection, this as already happened, as we know from scripture that many rose from the dead after his resurrection and preached the gospel of Jesus Christ.

So what are we doing while we wait?

For all this is a time of learning. For those who have heard the gospel of Jesus Christ in their earthly life, it is now their turn to teach the truths unto those who died without knowing these truths. All are given the chance and the choice to accept Jesus Christ’s as their Saviour and the Atonement. (Alma 40:11-14)

When Christ returns to the earth all at his second coming all will be resurrected – the graves will open and the bodies will rise up to meet the spirits coming down. It is only in this physically resurrected state that we will then be brought to the bar of God and the books will be opened and we will be judged. The full extent of the Atonement will come into being and we will receive justice and mercy through Jesus Christ, for no one can make it our own. All those who have ever lived will be resurrected, thus making all men equal.

Once we have received judgement, a judgement we will not be able to argue with, we will receive our reward in our Heavenly Father’s kingdoms. The scriptures tell us that there are many mansion in our Father’s house, and wherever we end up, it will feel like the most amazing place we have ever been. (Revelations 20:12-13)

Only the sons of perdition, those who have known Jesus Christ or those who have received a sworn testimony of Him and then deny his existence will be cast into Outer Darkness, along with Satan and his followers. (Doctrine & Covenants 76:30-113)
