“Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in my house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if i will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”

10% of earned income – Alma 13:15 – Abraham paid 10% tithes of all he possessed to Melchizedek, who was a High Priest unto the Lord. D&C ‘those who are tithed shall not be burned at the last day, when Christ comes again. God, does not need our goods or money, therefore tithing is an act of obedience. God also asks us to be ‘good stewards’ with all that we have and ‘prepare every needful thing…’ (D&C 88:119)
Genesis 1:29 “…every herb, every tree to you, it shall be for meat…”
Leviticus 11:2 “…beast ye shall eat…”
Deuteronomy 12:15 “…thou mayest kill and eat flesh…”
1 Timothy 4:1-3 meat should be eaten with thanksgiving and we should not abstain from eating meat, as that is a lie.
Test. Try. Prove all things. Hold Fast to that which is good. Abstain from all appearances of evil. Test of faith. Receive no witness until after the trial of our faith.
Alms giving. Benevolence. Charity. Give.
We should give freely unto the poor and the needy.
Mark 12 – The Widow’s Mite – she of her penury gave all that she had. God loves the cheerful giver – remember in all things the poor and the needy.
The Windows of Heaven
When i think about windows in heaven my mind takes me to an image of the sun’s rays coming through clouds. How, beautiful it always looks when this appears? It is almost like a miracle and always makes me pause and ponder.
I have read this scripture many times and yet it is only this time, that i have realized that it does not say ‘blessings’ but in fact, it says ‘a blessing.’ But, that blessing will be so huge we will not have room to receive it ~awesome!!!
So what is this blessing?
God, told Abraham, that he would be a blessing unto all nations and his name would be great (Gen 12:2).
To receive this blessing, we must consecrate ourselves first and then the Lord will ‘bless the land that it will bring forth plenty…
our children will be blessed..
the faithful will be blessed…
the blessings of Abraham will be upon the Gentiles
However…“And when we obtain any blessing from God, it is by obedience to that law upon which it is predicated.” (D&C 130:21)
Since, July 2016 my desire to pay tithing stopped! Something changed within me, as things changed around me and it now seems that the most obvious sources of a blessing is the easiest for Satan to stop. It is time that i told the old guy, Satan to go away and begin again to pay an honest tithe.
Over the years, I have witnessed some of the blessings paying tithing may bring. As in the words of David A Bednar, ‘significant, but subtle blessings’ have come my way. To name a few from an inexhaustible list; employment, bus ticket, a meal, a place to sleep…and the list goes on.
Today, I recommit to paying tithing, that the windows of heaven will be opened and ‘a blessing’ will pour forth that I will not have room to contain it. That, my blessing will be a blessing unto others also.
“The honest payment of tithing is much more than a duty, it is an important step in the process of personal sanctification.” (David A Bednar)
